Young Player to watch during World Cup- Jozy Altidore

At just 18, Altidore became the youngest player to score for the United States in the modern era when he tallied his first goal for the full team, powering home a header against Mexico during a 2-2 draw on Feb. 6, 2008, in Houston. He did one better in the World Cup qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago, becoming the youngest U.S. player to record a hat trick when the U.S. won 3-0 on April 1, 2009, in Nashville. The imposing forward moved to the Iberian Peninsula and Villarreal on a $10 million deal in June, then went to Second Division leaders Xerez on a six-month loan in January of 2009. For the national team, Jozy tallied a career-best five appearances and finished the year with six points in 2008, tied for fifth on the team.
With his three goals against T&T, Altidore jumped to the top spot in 2010 FIFA World Cup qualifying scoring for the U.S. with five total

Scored the first goal in the come-from-behind 2-2 draw in El Salvador, marking the first time the U.S. had rallied from a two-goal deficit to earn a point on the road

Finished as the fourth-leading scorer at the 2007 FIFA Under-20 World Cup in Canada with four goals, including both U.S. goals in a 2-1 victory against Brazil in group play, and the lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Austria in the quarterfinals

Part of Peter Nowak’s U-23 side that qualified for the Olympics in Beijing and appeared in all three games at the Olympics, scoring the go-ahead goal during the 2-2 draw on Aug. 10 with the Netherlands

Became the first U.S. international to score in Spain’s La Liga when he grabbed goal against Athletic Bilbao on Nov. 1, 2008
